My Husband's Love Language

My husband learned to cook when he was still in elementary. His favorite part of the house has been the kitchen since then. He just loves to cook. He loves to come up with new dishes, experimenting here and there. I never have to tell him to prepare something for me, as he'd ask me readily what I wanted to eat. It's no wonder I gain a few extra pounds as the weeks go by. His love language is the food he serves every meal.

Filipino bihon or noodle dish, which is a staple food next to rice
baked milkfish
homemade burger, with extra thick tomatoes because he loves it
Filipino adobo, or pork slices cooked in soy sauce, vinergar, bay leaves, etc

this is a very good version of shepherd's pie

The Weekend is Upon Us

Tomorrow is Friday and then we’re almost through the week. It has been indeed tiring but that’s not going to last. In Montreal, it’s officially spring and the long days are here. The sun shines even brighter now but there are scattered rains here and there. After work, Jan and I find ourselves out on a walk either at the park or around our neighbourhood. I busied my week with cooking and mostly taking a nap. 😴

the local milk tea shop that we frequent to has this by their counter

I slacked off so much on writing and updating my blog this month. I wanted to take it slow and mainly because there hasn’t been anything going on in my life. I wish you all a happy weekend. ☀️

Nothing in Life Ever Comes Easy

Early today at work, I was able to talk to a colleague. We were not necessarily friends, but his warm and cordial disposition made me want to strike up a conversation with him and boy did I have fun.
"How was your weekend," he asked. "Oh, I just stayed home. It was too cold to go out. I had my afternoon walk but that was it," I shared. "Do you still have classes after work," I inquired out of curiosity. "Just French classes," he answered back. "Do you mean you're done with school," I asked some more. "Yeah, I'm about to start my PhD come May under the wing of Caroline," he said, matter of factly. At this point, surprise was clearly visible on my face. He looked so young (and also unassuming, if I may add) he could pass for a twenty year old guy. He went on to share he finished his Master's in Spain and he wanted to try working in Canada for a change in environment. He decided to pursue his PhD, focusing on optical laser. He was optimistic it could help detect and cure cancer and other life-threatening illnesses. It could revolutionize health care. He then plans to go back to work in Europe and eventually settle in his hometown, Mexico, and apply all his learning to help his countrymen. Patriotic at its finest.
And then it dawned on me, this guy was willing to go through great lengths for his dreams. Nothing in life ever comes easy and that's why he's putting in so much of his time and brain cells to get what he wants. He was truly invested and it was humbling hearing his story.  Now, I am truly inspired by it. Some day, somehow, I hope my dreams will come to realization. No matter how long it takes, I hope to persevere.
Go on and take that first step to reach out to a coworker or colleague. Who knows where a small talk would lead to? :)

If These Do Not Make You Smile, I Don't Know What Will

There's something so beautiful about trees and flowers. They instantly uplift a person's spirit. When we take a moment to soak in our surroundings, nature can help us come to great realizations about life and its adversities. I bask in the beauty of spring and the new beginnings it brings. When you look out of the window, the sun is almost bright, the trees are almost budding, and the fragrance of flowers fills the air. Ahh, what could be more beautiful than spring?

Below are some of the flowers or trees I've photographed while going on a walk either here or abroad.

Yosemite National Park
South Fork American river, a stop we made on the way to Reno, Nevada
Lake Tahoe
Gumamela or hibiscus grows aplenty in the Philippines
white hydrangeas taken in Ogden, Quebec
Can you tell I love them? If I could only fill my house with hydrangeas.
so colorful, so lovely
One day, my husband went home with these tulips. He earned himself a good meal for dinner. <3
perfect for my phone's wallpaper
tulips are everywhere in Montreal
I make sure I have fresh flowers for my mother. <3
Take a pose and smile. Life is short to be weary.

What are your favorite spring photos? :)
